In the
beginning of this year Google made the hint that it is working on a special
mobile platform that is purposed for wearable tech and it is based on Android.
The name of the operating system is Android Wear. Just a few months after we
heard about the existence of the platform Google officially unveiled the
Android Wear at its developers’ conference I/O 2014 that took the place in San Francisco, CA,
USA this week. There
is a lot to say about the new operating system and certainly a lot more to discover
when the first devices working on it go on sale for the vast audience.
Before we
have got the chance to land hands on the first smartwatches, it is good to know
what to expect from the Android Wear. It is a new gesture-based OS that is
purposed to work on screens with different shapes and resolutions and to bring
the most fulfilling functionality to devices that don’t have keyboard. The
platform is designed to connect with a smartphone so it can unleash its
potential. It will pull out info from the Google Now application in the phone
or the tablet. The smartwatches running on Android Wear will display
notifications and provide the possibilities for answering or ignoring calls. The
music player will also be easily controlled from the wearable tech.
The
navigating through the software will happen with swipes from right to left and
the opposite as well, swiping from down to top and the opposite – each provides
different functionality. The first smartwatches that arrive with Android Wear
out of the box are LG G Watch and Samsung Gear Live. Rumors say that Motorola
Moto 360 and a new advanced timepiece from ASUS. The SDK is already available
for download and work for developers.
The Android
Wear is not the only platform for wearable devices that Google introduced. It
finally made official the rumored Google Fit Platform. As the name suggest it
is a health-related fitness orientated operating system that boasts different
features. It will be able to collect information from apps and services of your
devices and bring it together in a more summarized form. The companies that
have already confirmed their plans to launch Google Fit-powered devices are
HTC, Adidas, Nike and LG.
few words at the end: The
whirlpool of innovations in the world of wearable tech is amazing, do you agree?
